Ian was Volks' predecessor to the popular MSD line of dolls. She was in fact shorter than MSD, though by how much is not certain.
Ian was based off a character in a manga by Kei Toumei. You can see some example pics of the manga here: one, two, three
She was released in limited numbers at Dolpa 4; there were 100 of her that were completed versions, fully put together in advance, and 200 of her that were kit versions, that needed to be put together and have their faceup painted by the owner.
It is almost impossible to come by Ian these days as only 300 of her were made, almost 7 years ago, and very few people resell her now. However occasionally one will resurface on the 2ndhand market.
The example Ian owner photos pictured to the right (4th, 7th and 8th thumbnails) are kit versions with faceups done by owners -- they are not the original faceup done by Volks.
